Originally this was of course one half of a pair but only this one survives. Henry William Mortimer had a shop at 89 Fleet Street, London from 1780 until 1835 when the business name was changed to H. W. Mortimer and Sons from 1835 to 1855. H. W. Mortimer bore a Royal Warrant having supplied weapons to the Royal family and was well known for supplying weapons to The Royal Mail Coaches.
