1895 Steel Engraving Portrait Doctor Dr. Solon Marks Milwaukee Surgeon HWC1 XGKA7 found in mangroves and forestsThis is an original 1895 black and white steel engraving of a portrait of physician and surgeon Dr. Solon Marks, who first came to Wisconsin in 1848 from Stockbridge, Vermont. In 1853, Marks graduated from the Rush Medical College in Chicago and returned to Wisconsin to practice medicine in Jefferson County. During the Civil War, Marks served as a surgeon with the 10th Wisconsin Infantry. In 1866, he became chief surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital in
